Before I launch into writing the new book (The Biblical Case for the One True God), I’m going to dry run the process by serializing The Duty of a Man, a book I wrote in 2023. I chose DM for this trial run because it’s very short – less than 12,000 words. (A long essay can easily run 10,000-12,000 words.) I also chose it because I want everyone to read it, and because it is well worth re-reading every year or so – even if by myself with no one else joining.
By serializing the smaller, existing book, we can work out any kinks in the process before tackling the larger, newer project. Without further ado, here’s the first installment of The Duty of a Man.

The Duty of a Man:
Keeping a Family in Jesus Christ and the Bible
Preface
This book defines 1) the general duty that every 21st-century human being owes to God, and 2) the specific additional duty that a grown male owes Him. Therefore, the word “man” in the book’s title is to be understood in both these senses, even though it emphasizes the latter.
If you’re an average reader (high school and up), you can read this book in an hour or less. It distills important and practical truths it took me a lifetime to learn. It’s free. Nor do I have anything else to sell you. I don’t accept advertising or donations; and there’s no organization for you to join. I’m a retired man and I publish the book digitally because that’s the most affordable way I have of communicating to the maximum number of men.
Oh, and I’m not going to be encouraging you to go to church either. God has better things for you to do with your time. Besides, He doesn’t want some of your time; He wants all of it. How is that possible, practical, or even desirable? You may be surprised.
