Today was to have been the first installment of my new book The Biblical Case for the One True God. But as sometimes happens in the preparation of books, I have come to realize that it really needs to be two books. Therefore, I’m calling an audible at the line of scrimmage.
The first book will be called The Biblical Case for Finding Jesus in the Old Testament (BCFJOT). The second will be called The Biblical Case for the Only True God. You may recall that I had been saying “…the one true God” in the title. I have decided to change “one” to “only” in order to exactly match what Jesus called the Father in John 17:3 according to the NASB 1995. You’ll hear more about verse when we get to that book in about four months because I plan to address that verse in the opening.
As for BCFJOT, which we’ll begin tomorrow, it had to be peeled out of, and put before, the originally-planned book because it became clear, as my chapter outline was developing, that the point this subject makes in the first part of the book is so profound that it deserves its own book. A single non-fiction book should only have one big idea; otherwise, the reader’s attention is pulled here and there such that he ends up frustrated. Plus, I figured it would be easier on ultimate readers of the completed books to deal with two normal-sized books than one over-sized book.
Those of you familiar with this website are accustomed to seeing the hashtag #FJOT which is sprinkled throughout the Bible commentary that is found in Bible Study Notes (BSN). Therefore, you don’t need the concept explained to you. Rest assured, though, this book is not going to be a long list of FJOTs that have been found; you already have access to that through BSN. (In other words, it won’t be a re-hash of a hashtag. What BCFJOT is going to be is a doorway into more FJOTs than you probably have thought possible – FJOTs lying in plain sight, but previously undiscovered. Thousands of them. It took me decades of reading the Bible to see this doorway, but you’ll be able to see them in a fraction of that time because I’ll show you how I missed it for so long. You’ll be quick to learn what I was so slow to learn. Most importantly, you’ll find more of Jesus in the Old Testament – much more!
So, to sum up, you’ll be getting the book I promised you. It’s just that the first half of what I planned to write will come as a book of its own.
