- Distinguished from other SPIRITS – Acts 23:8-9
- Both the Hebrew and Greek words for “angel” mean “messenger.”
- Angelic involvement in the establishment of Israel as a nation.
- It was an angel who appeared to Moses in the burning thorn bush – Act 7:30, 35, 38
- God sent an angel to help Moses lead the Israelites out of Egypt – Num 20:16
- The Law of Moses was ordained through an angel or angels – Act 7:53; Gal 3:19; Heb 2:2

- Angels can be good or evil. For example, contrast the angels arrayed around the Son of Man (Mt 25:31) with the devil and his angels (Mt 25:41) in the third of the three parables that comprise Mt 25.
- Complicating things, Paul says that Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light (2 Cor 11:14).
- In the Bible, angels are often addressed by humans as “lord” (see below).
- Disrespect to angels is frowned upon (e.g. 2 Pet 2:10; Jude 1:8)
- Paul said that we will judge angels, and he said it rather matter-of-factly, as if most of the believers in Corinth had already been taught this (1 Cor 6:3).
- Paul repeatedly distinguishes Jesus from the angels in the first two chapters of Hebrews (the word “angels” appears 10x in Heb 1 and 2; and also appears in Heb 12:22 and 13:2).
- Angels as similar to men:
- were addressed as “lord” (adonai in the OT; kurios in the NT) – Zech 1:9; 4:4, 5; 6:4; Acts 9:5; 10:3-4
- were called “men” – Acts 10:30-33
