The English word “book” appears 173 times in the NASB 1995 (OT 133x; NT 40x). Yet this English word usually causes us to think of the modern book, with its printed pages bound together – a reading device that did not exist in biblical times. Therefore, we have to have the other meanings of the word “book” in mind when we encounter it in the Bible: such as, missive, document, writing, certificate, deed, letter, text, scroll, etc. Otherwise, we find ourselves thinking anachronistically.
