BSN: grace

  • The most useful definition of “grace” that I have found is a synonym: “generosity.”
  • “grace” is the noun, “gracious” is the adjective
  • Strong’s Concordance equates “grace” with “favor,” and “gracious” with “showing favor.”
  • Someone formulated this mnemonic which many people like: “Grace is
    God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.”
  • Because the word grace is found so commonly in the New Testament, some people think that the concept did not exist in Old Testament times. However, the Old Testament is where Jesus – and therefore the New Testament authors – got the idea. For example, consider: Ezra 9:8; Ps 45:2; 51:1; 84:11; Prov 3:34; Jer 31:2; Zech 4:7; 12:10. Consider also “gracious”
  • Counts:
    • NT: “grace” 114x; “gracious” 6x
    • OT: “grace” 11x; “gracious” 67x
