1st Century AD
- 70 – Jerusalem is destroyed by the Romans.
4th Century AD
- 312 – Constantine converts to Christianity
- 313 – Constantine issues the Edict of Milan, establishing toleration of Christianity
- 325 – The Council of Nicaea
- 380 – The emperor Theodosius issues the Edict of Thessalonica, which made Christianity, specifically Nicene Christianity, the official religion of the Roman Empire.
11th Century AD
- 1054 – The Great Schism: the church splits into east (Eastern Orthodox Church) and west (Roman Catholic Church).
16th Century AD
- 1517 – Martin Luther posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the church at Wittenberg, Germany. This is generally considered the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, the third major branch of organized Christianity (see The Great Schism in 1054 for the first two).
