- 722 BC (8th century BC) – Samaria (Northern Israel; that is, the ten tribes) falls to the Assyrians.
- 586 BC (6th century BC) – Jerusalem (Southern Israel; that is, Judah and Benjamin) falls to the Babylonians.
- 70 AD (1st century AD) – Jerusalem (all Israel) falls to the Romans.
All three dates marked a day of judgment and a dispersion of Jews. This was a case of God using evil for good. That is, all three dates were occasions when Israel’s enemies triumphed because of Israel’s sins. Yet as Jews were exiled – including Jews like Mordecai, Esther, and Daniel – they became a blessing to the communities in which they lived.
Each of these dates were a day of the Lord – that is a day of judgment.
