- God’s kindness and severity are demonstrated in His Blessings and Curses.
- The Eye of the Storm is about how we can experience the kindness of God in the midst of His severity.
God is a teacher and the purpose of life is to work our way up the learning curve. The expression “A word to the wise is sufficient” is a recognition that there is both an easy way to learn something and a hard way. The easy way is to learn from His kindness, which mainly consists of reading the Bible and following its advice; the hard way is to learn from His severity, which consists of experiencing the negative consequences of doing things our own way instead of His. (Of course, some people are fools and don’t learn from either, but you wouldn’t be reading this book if you were one of those.)
- Kindness and Severity
- Rom 11:22 (explicit)
- 1 Cor 4:21 (implicit)
- Kindness
- Severity
- Heb 10:26-31, especially Heb 10:29
- Some people cannot imagine Jesus being severe, but they have only thought about Him superficially. Consider:
- …what He did the moneychangers and their property in the temple (Mt 21:12-13; Mk 11:15-18; Jn 2:13-17
- …the Son’s wrath in Ps 2:12
- …the wrath of the Lamb in Rev 6:16; 14:10.
