BSN: Moses

  • According to Ussher’s chronology, Moses (1571-1451 BC) was
    • born in 1571 BC.
    • fled Egypt at age 40 for Midian in 1531 BC.
    • returned to Egypt at age 80 to lead Israel out in 1491 BC.
    • died at age 120 in Moab in 1451 BC.
  • Moses’ 120-year life span can therefore be divided into three 40-year segments:
    • 1571-1531 BC – in Egypt (16th century BC).
    • 1531-1491 BC – in Midian (16th-15th centuries BC).
    • 1491-1451 BC – leading Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness (15th century BC). It was during this period that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Psalm 90 is also ascribed to Moses, and he is the likely author of the book of Job as well.
