Not to be confused with SABBATH.
- “Lord of Sabaoth” is just another way of saying “Lord of hosts” because “sabaoth” means “hosts” (armies).
- This phrase refers to the massive angelic armies the Lord has at His command. It is a way of referring to God with reverential awe.
- This expression is used frequently in the OT (272x), but rarely in the NT (2x).
- In the NASB 1995 it is always rendered “of hosts” in the OT and “of sabaoth” in the NT.
- The first appearance of this word in the Bible was: Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts.
