BSN: SCRIBE

Related: Ancient Writings

The Bible was written and compiled long before the printing press was invented in the 15th century. That means that the Bible came into being during times when all documents were handwritten. Since literacy rates were low in ancient times compared to what we’re used to today, the task of writing often fell to professionals – called scribes.

Examples:

  • Tertius – a scribe for Paul (Rom 16:22)
  • Baruch – a scribe for Jeremiah (Jer 36:17-19 and elsewhere)
