Consider also:
- The 27 NT texts we have are all the apostolic writings we have. It can, therefore, we considered “the apostles’ teaching.”
- The apostles taught what had Christ had taught them. Therefore, the apostles’ teaching can be equated with “the teaching of Christ” (2 Jn 1:9 e).
- As God sent the prophets, so Jesus sent the apostles. Therefore, we should regard the words of the apostles the way Jesus regarded the words of the prophets (Lk 24:25). That is, putting our trust in the apostles is putting our trust in God, just as Jesus and His disciples putting their trust in the prophets was putting their trust in God (2 Chr 20:20).
