Introduction
The book of Zephaniah is the ninth of what are called “the twelve minor prophets” (Major and Minor Prophets).
- As for the major prophets, Jeremiah was a contemporary of Zephaniah.
- As for the minor prophets, Nahum and Habakkuk were contemporaries of Zephaniah.

Zephaniah 1
Day of Judgment on Judah
Zeph 1:1 – Compare this verse to Jer 1:2 to see that these two prophets were contemporaries.
Zeph 1:2-6 – The Lord is prophesying judgment.
Zeph 1:7 – “the day of the Lord“
Zeph 1:12 – Beware of moods like this: “The Lord will not do good or evil!” The Lord does not like us to think this way.

Woe to Jerusalem and the Nations
Zeph 3:2 – Alas, this is what our leaders have made of America.
Zeph 3:5 – In spite of our national condition, described in Zeph 3:2, the Lord is faithful to bring us light every day in our PDT’s, FDT’s, and ODT’s. He will not forsake any remnant that will seek Him.
A Remnant of Israel
Zeph 3:12-13 – This is the sort of people we should always seek to be.
Zeph 3:15 – This is the kingdom of God and it is in our midst – if we will but open our eyes and grasp for the hem of His garment.
