BSN: THE COUNCIL/SANHEDRIN

  • “The Council” (also known as “The Sanhedrin” was the ruling body of Israel in New Testament times.
    • It was headquartered in the nation’s capital which was Jerusalem
    • It consisted of elders, as many as 70 of them
    • These elders were mainly Sadducees and Pharisees
    • It exercised both political and religious control
    • It was subject to Roman rule
