BSN: The Messianic Plan

  • Acts 2:23 “the predetermined plan”
  • The messianic plan was God’s intention from the beginning to redeem the human race from sin by a life He would live on earth: the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Paul writes about this intention in Eph 1:3-14.
  • It would be by the righteousness of the Messiah – and not that of any other human being – that the messianic plan have its effect of saving every human being.
  • The messianic plan to save all human beings did not mean that human beings would not be judged. On the contrary, God is both just and merciful. Therefore, all human beings experience judgment both in the earth as we live and with finality at the end of our lives. Thus the messianic plan is both just and merciful. That everyone goes to heaven instead of only some is simply a function of mercy triumphing over judgment rather than judgment triumphing over mercy (Jas 2:13).
  • The messianic plan was first communicated by messianic prophecies in the Old Testament and then further disclosed by description of the fulfillment of those prophecies in the New Testament.
