- King David gave the plans and provisions for his son King Solomon to build a temple for God in Jerusalem.
- While there were many synagogues throughout Israel and even the whole world, there was only one temple and it was in Jerusalem. This was the only place that animal sacrifice was allowed, it was the gathering place for all of Israel’s national feasts instituted by Moses, and it was kept and administered by Israel’s priests.
- The temple was preceded by the tabernacle, which had been designed and constructed in the time of Moses.
