BSN: ON TYPES, SHADOWS, AND SUCH

Back to BSN: Glossary: Things

A type, like a parable, is a form of analogy; as a parable helps explain the way people behave, so a type, shadow, or copy helps explain the role someone, some group, some place, or some event fulfills.

  • TYPE – Rom 5:14; Heb 11:19
  • SHADOW – Col 2:17; Heb 8:5; 10:1
  • COPY – Heb 8:5; 9:23, 24
  • MODEL – 2 Kings 16:10
  • PATTERN – Heb 8:5; 2 Kgs 16:10
  • SIGN – Jn 2:11; Heb 9:8-9; Gen 1:14
  • SYMBOL – Heb 9:8-9

The most prominent and frequent types and shadows in the Bible are those of Christ. For more on those, see Identifiers of Jesus Christ.
