“LEAVEN” re-directs here.
Audio Capsule of Jesus Christ as Unleavened Bread
- Matt 16:1-12; Mark 8:11-21; Luke 12:1-3; 1 Cor 5:6-8
- The first mention of “unleavened bread” in the Bible was Genesis 19:3 when Lot had to produce a meal quickly for the two angels who had come to save his family from the destruction that was about to come upon Sodom.
- The feast of Unleavened Bread was one of several Jewish feasts or festivals instituted by Moses. It began with Israel’s deliverance from slavery in Egypt, was connected with Passover, and symbolized that Israel had to leave Egypt quickly (not having time to allow for the bread to rise). Notice the parallel with Lot and Sodom: nourishment and protection in the midst of judgment.
- Consider especially Mt 16:11-12; Lk 12:1-2; 1 Cor 5:8. By reading the Bible for yourself, you are partaking of unleavened bread. The men who wrote the library we call the Bible were not hypocritical; neither were they malicious or wicked. On the contrary, they were were sincere and truthful. They were truly men sent by God. There is no leaven in the bread they serve. And the spiritual unleavened bread they serve is Christ Himself. This is the communion God endorses – not the eating of wafers, which misses the point of God’s word.
