First mention in the Bible – Gen 17:10-11
Initial instruction to Abraham (which was at the time Abram was given the name Abraham) – Gen 17:10-14
It was the sign of the covenant between God and Abraham – Gen 17:11; Act 7:8
It was for males -Gen 17:10-11
Rule for infants is to circumcise on their eighth day – Gen 17:12
Incorporated into the Law of Moses – Lev 12:1-3
- and was a requirement for partaking of the Passover
