Immanuel

usually translated as: “God is with us,” “God with us,” “with us is God.”
This word (name) appears only in Is 7:14; 8:8 (OT) and Mt 1:22-23 (NT).
The literal phrase “God is with us” appears in Is 8:10, and is obviously meant to be understood in the context of Is 7:14 and Is 8:8.

The references in Isaiah obvious foreshadow the Messiah. This is confirmed in Mt 1:22-23.
The spelling “Immanuel” is the result of translating from Hebrew to English, whereas the spelling “Emmanuel” is the result of translating from Greek to English. There is no difference in meaning.
A contrast to the name “Immanuel” is “Ichabod” (“the glory has departed” in 1 Sam 4:19-22, noting the fall of the house of Eli). As the name of “Immanuel” foreshadowed the coming of Messiah, so “Ichabod” foreshadowed the departing of the glory from Israel when it rejected the Messiah.
