Related: Scriptural Pointers to the Deity of Jesus Christ (there is some overlap)

  • “Abraham” – The promise to Abraham that he and his seed (not seeds) would be a father – Rom 4; Gal 3:16
  • “The day of Christ” – how could He be exalted any more than He was in Acts through Revelation? There was only one honor left!
  • “God was in Christ”
    • 2 Cor 5:19; 1 Pet 5:10
    • as Moses was in the basket
  • Immanuel” – Is 7:14; 8:8 (also tie both to Is 9:6)
  • One
    • There is one God – Jas 2:19; Mal 2:10
    • There is one Lord – Jn 17:3; Dt 6:4
  • “Son”
    • “The Son of God” – The Son would have to eventually become God or be a victim of arrested development.
    • “Heir”
    • “Seed”
    • a son takes the place of his father – Num 20:28-29; Dt 10:6; Is 22:21-24
  • “YHWH” (the Lord) – Jesus is YHWH (Rom 10:9-13 [Joel 2:32]; Rom 15:11 [Ps 117:1]; Act 2:36 [Act 2:20-21]) and
    • and YHWH is God – Dt 4:35, 39; Josh 22:34; 24:18; 1 Kgs 18:36, 39; 2 Chr 33:13; Ps 18:31; 100:3; 118:27; Is 25:1; 43:10-13; 45:5, 21-22; Jer 10:10; Zech 13:9
    • and YHWH is Father –
      • YHWH is the Father – Is 63:16; 64:8
      • YHWH is a father – Is 1:2; Mal 1:6
      • YHWH is as a father – Dt 1:31; Ps 103:13; Pr 3:11-12
    • YHWH is God and Father – Dt 32:3-6; Hos 1:9-11
  • How Jesus was treated on earth
    • Consider that Jesus was worshiped…and did not refuse it – Mt 2:2, 8, 11; 14:33; 28:9, 17; Lk 17:15-16; Jn 9:38
    • Consider that “No one can forgive sins but God alone” – Mk 2:7; Lk 5:21
  • The parable of the vineyard that Jesus told (Mt 21:33-41; Mk 12:1-11; Lk 20:9-18) in which the son is called the heir and is distinguished from all who came before him
  • Jesus speaks to individuals as “son” (Mt 9:2), “daughter” (Mt 9:22), and to a group as “children” (Jn 21:5). Jesus doing this sort of thing hints that the fullness of His deity would one day be revealed.
