The most commonly reported reading rates I have found for average American adults are 200 to 250 words per minute – or, to split the difference, 225 words per minute. Because the Bible conveys ideas that require thoughtful, contemplative reading, I assume a reading rate for my essays of only 175 words per minute.
If you’re a speed reader, more power to you. But I don’t want anyone feeling rushed in their reading. Jesus Christ is important enough for us to slow down and think thoroughly about the things He says.
