Does It Bother You That Everyone Is Going to Heaven?

I hope it doesn’t. How could you be bothered that everyone else will receive the same benefit that you are going to receive?

If it does bother you, you might consider what that says about your character. It’s not as if you’ve earned the way to heaven. Jesus Christ paid the price for you. You wouldn’t have a chance without Him and neither would I.

Just because everyone is going to heaven doesn’t mean that there’s no such thing as sin, or judgment, or consequences for behavior. On the contrary, all these things are true also. We receive judgment for our sins in this life and in the next life for those that don’t get judged in this one. God will be fair. But He is not going to sentence anyone to an eternity without Him. Would you want Him to? I hope not.

If you’re happy that everyone is going to heaven, be happy and repent of your sins. If you’re sad that everyone is going to heaven, repent of your sins – including the sin of wishing such evil on your brothers and sisters.

  1. Over and over in the bible it says statements like:
“those who believe in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life”
“whoever does the will of God lives forever”
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them”
“he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him”
    and so on…
If you believe everyone everyone is going to heaven and will have eternal life after death, why would there be these scriptures that say things like those who believe, whoever believes, whoever believes in the Son, for all who obey him..etc. It sounds like God is not saying all people, but only those who believe and obey and do his will will have eternal life.
What does he mean by not perishing… there must be people who perish for him to say that?

    1. You are treating references to eternal life as if they only apply to the afterlife, yet Jesus taught that eternal life can and should begin while we are still on earth. And because eternal life is available in this world, that’s why you see some living and some perishing…because some believe and some don’t. However, once our life on earth ends, any and all resistance to God ceases. Don’t you remember how in Luke 16 the rich man who previously wouldn’t give poor Lazarus the time of day was transformed by death into a selfless man intent on sparing others his pain? And what do you do with verses like 1 Corinthians 15:22; 1 Tim 4:10; Hosea 2:23 and many others?

If we, being evil, could not be satisfied with an eternity that excluded any of our offspring, how could God, being good, be content with such an eternity? All you have to do to get over the hump that confronts you is to admit to yourself that God has a way of simultaneously being just and merciful even though we may not be able to conceive of it while here on earth. That’s the essence of faith.

  2. Ok I understand that now. Thank you! I have always read eternal life to mean the afterlife only. After I sent you that question I found a verse in Matt 17:3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” Reading through scripture with that mindset changes the meaning of those verses. I cannot thank you enough for sharing what you’ve learned.

    1. You’ve made my day.

In addition to verses that explicitly mention “eternal life,” consider also verses like these which are referring to the same thing even though the word “eternal” is implied and not spelled out: Rom 6:13; Eph 2:5; Col 2:13; Rev 3:1.

    2. What’s so grand about the process you’re going through is that you are “letting Scripture interpret Scripture” as saints before us have wisely counseled us to do.

  3. Thank you. Jesus’ words now have a whole new meaning when he’s referring to life and death. We have 2 lives…physical and spiritual/ eternal. I’ve heard the verse John 3:16 so many times and missed the entire meaning every time. Eternal life is being defined in that verse. Eternal life is believing in Him, which can start now…not when we die.
