The Second Coming as a Revelation

There were a lot of things tied up in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. They included a new heavens and earth, the kingdom of God, judgment, deliverance, and, among other things, revelation. Yes, revelation. I have selected the following New Testament verses to emphasize this point. I have added bold print and all caps to emphasize the point.

Luke 17:30 “It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is REVEALED.”

1 Cor 1:7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the REVELATION of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Cor 1:8 who will also confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thess 1:7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be REVEALED from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,

1 Pet 1:7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the REVELATION of Jesus Christ;

1 Pet 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the REVELATION of Jesus Christ.

1 Pet 4:13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the REVELATION of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.

Notice that the revelation to come in the Second Coming centered on Jesus Himself. All the verses above make this clear.

What was left to be revealed about Jesus Christ? In the New Testament texts, He had already been shown to be the Son of God and the Messiah (John 20:30-31 and many other places). They also revealed that He had preexisted all creation (John 1:1-18; 1 Cor 8:5-6; Col 1:15-20; Heb 1:1-2:4). He was proclaimed at the beginning of almost every one of the New Testament’s 22 epistles to be second only to God in glory, power, and authority over all creation due to His triumph over sin through His death, resurrection, and ascension. Surely, there were no more feathers to put in His cap than that, right? Yet you see in the list of verses above, and elsewhere in the New Testament, that a great revelation was to be a centerpiece of the Second Coming.

Trinitarians would have us believe that whatever revelation of Jesus came with the Second Coming, it would not include His being called Father, for in their book, that role was already taken. Therefore, Jesus would always be for them a divine child, never able to have children of His own. Yet, if the Trinitarians are right, the prophet Isaiah’s famous prophecy about the Messiah would never fully be true. (I emphasize below a couple of titles which they deny to Jesus.)

Is 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Is 9:7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.

No wonder Trinitarians deny that the Second Coming has occurred. The revelation of Jesus Christ that is part and parcel of it, and that fills out Isaiah’s prophecy above, discredits their theology.
