Timed Psalter

The book of Psalms in the Bible is sometimes called “the Psalter.” The chart you’ll find at the link below lists all 150 in the order of their length – from the shortest to the longest. They are also grouped so that you can choose which psalm to read based on the amount of time you have to read and discuss – or, if you are alone, read and contemplate.

Notes:

  • Psalm 119 is the longest psalm by far at 176 verses, but for purposes of this chart I have broken it into its 22 stanzas, each of which is 8 verses long.
  • Within each column, the respective psalms are listed in order from the shortest to the longest.
  • The times assigned are approximations based on samples of the narrative audio readings published by the Lockman Foundation for the 1995 New American Standard Bible with Dale McConachie (1959-2015) as narrator.
  • Roughly speaking, 10 verses equates to one minute of reading aloud. (Of course, reading silently would be faster.)
