NTBF: canon

NTBF Index

canon – In our context, a canon is “an authoritative list of books accepted as Holy Scripture” (Merriam-Webster). For example, the biblical canon, the New Testament canon, the Old Testament canon. Practically speaking, it’s the table of contents.

canonization – The process of forming the canon by identifying the writings that belong in it and distinguishing them from all other writings. The biblical canon took centuries to form.

The canon and canonization are church issues. Our only interest from a TLE standpoint is what they can tell us about New Testament authorship.
